Darice is a Minnesota-based poet and the author of making it up as i go (2021), a debut collection that weaves together themes of mental health, trauma, sexual violence, and the queer experience. Her writing is known for its honesty and emotional depth, offering readers space to sit with discomfort, healing, and hope.
Darice holds a BA in Criminology from Flagler College and is currently pursuing an MA in Applied Child & Adolescent Development at the University of Minnesota. Her academic work centers around trauma-informed practices, particularly in educational and youth-serving settings, and reflects her deep commitment to creating more compassionate, supportive systems for young people.
While she is currently on a writing hiatus to focus on graduate school, creative expression remains central to her life. Beyond poetry, Darice engages in visual art, community-based advocacy, and public speaking—often working with students and youth programs to discuss topics like consent, mental health, and queer identity.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling, building community, and making art in all its forms. Whether on the page, in the classroom, or in conversation, Darice believes in the power of storytelling to foster connection, healing, and change.
